In a record-breaking feat, the biggest in Nigeria’s football history, Super Eagles trashed their Matchday 2 opponents, Sao Tome & Principe in the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifiers to sit in a commanding position in Group A with an expected win.
The goal margin, as they put a record equalling (10) goals past broke The Falcons’ 10-1 victory over now Benin Republic more than six decades ago.
Super Eagles’ squad clearly outmatched a lowly rated Sao Tome & Principe. Victor Osimhen nailed his first senior hat-trick and one more, Ademola got his first Super Eagles goal and it was simply a stroll in the park for Jose Peseiro’s men. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen will make the headlines with his four goals, but Moses Simon, Moffi and Lookman also deserve the applause for solid performances against a poor Sao Tome and Principe side.
The Napoli shooter well known for being prolific in the air got his first two through headers. Moses Simon and Terem Moffi added to Osimhen’s first goal to end the first half three goals up – a score-line that all but settled the tie.
Super Eagles delivered the coup de grâce, after they returned in the second half and charged at the island nation with another seven goals, leaving the Falcons and True Parrots Team gasping for survival.
