Hon. Lasun Yusuf, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor in the July 16 general election, narrowly averted death when unknown gunmen opened fire on his home in Ilobu, in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun state, early on July 1.
The attack’s details are still unclear as of the time this report was filed. However, sources say that when the assailantgs broke into his home about 2am midnight, his security guards fiercely fought them and engaged them..
His media aide, Oyewole Oladimeji, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
In the meantime, Lasun publicly claimed on a radio program in Osogbo on Monday that the attack on his residence was allegedly masterminded by the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who wanted to remove him from the run for governor.
Ismail Omipidan, the press secretary for Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has stated that Lasun Yusuf, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor in the Osun gubernatorial election, is not a threat to his principal’s bid for a second term.
Since security men were attached to him, according to Omipidan, the attack ought to have been effectively resisted.
“If we are to carry out an attack, it would have been on the PDP who are attacking our people. But for the fact that they have been attacking our people, we have never made any attempt to go on a reprisal.
“Why would anyone want to come after Lasun? Lasun is no threat to Mr governor. We are not after any citizen of Osun State, let alone Lasun Yusuff.
“It is not only that my principal does not know anything about the attack but I am doubtful of the claim being made by Honourable Lasun Yusuff.
