The Civil Society Organisations , CSOs on Thursday, expressed pain over closure of both public and private schools in Abuja-Nigeria.
According to the convener of the organisation, the shutdown of both public and private schools in Abuja signified that terrorists were gaining ground in their reign of terror.
The Civil group also emphasised that the terrorists’ goal is to eradicate Western education, so if they are successful even without bombing schools or government buildings and the government is already closing down schools, it shows that the insurgent group is winning the war.
Concern lurks about what might have happened in a circumstance similar to this one, when the undergraduate student strike was given more time to continue.
CSOs emphasised that children should not be denied the opportunity to receive a basic education, meaning that the current action would have the unintended consequence of preventing many children from returning to school owing to the length of time they had been absent.
The Federal Capital Territory had directed the closure of all private schools in Abuja. The directive comes amidst threats of attacks in the capital city.
The Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Kaduna, Kogi, Katsina, and Zamfara states, as well as the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, were all targeted in a security report.
The Federal Government College Kwali, which is one of the Unity Colleges run by the Federal Ministry of Education and is situated in Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory’s Kwali Area Council, had previously been ordered to close immediately.
Also, as a proactive measure to protect the lives of its pupils, the government of Nasarawa State has ordered the immediate closure of both public and private schools throughout the state’s 13 local government areas.
