Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) have reportedly arrested a Boko Haram leader in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.
The SSS arrested the suspect on Saturday in Abeokuta where he allegedly disguised himself as a security man.
An Abeokuta-based radio station, Rock City 109.1 FM, had reported the story in its news bulletin, causing panic among residents. An audio of the newscast went viral across social media platforms in the state on Sunday.
Recall that News Central reported last week that Boko Haram were planning to strike various states including Lagos state.
Following intelligence information indicating that armed assailants were preparing an attack in the state, the Lagos police announced on Sunday that they had put officers on alert.
According to a secret police official, the suspect was detained by SSS agents late one night in the Abeokuta neighborhood of Ijaye. The official asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation.
According to him, the suspected terrorist traveled from Katsina to Abeokuta and accepted a security position at Ijaye while gathering information for an attack.
He disclosed that armed security personnel raided his hiding place after gathering intelligence and arrested him.
“It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives. There are still many of them around, but the operatives are on top of their game,” he said.
Similarly, Samson Ogundele, a herbalist, has been detained by officers with the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping a teenager and trying to rape another during a consultation over a missing N1,000. Both of the victims are hairdressing apprentices.
The suspect, an inhabitant of the Referefu neighborhood of Oja-Odan in the state’s Yewa-North Local Government Area, was apprehended last Wednesday for allegedly raping one girl and making an attempt to rape another who had gone to his home with seven other people for advice.
