Ahead of the inauguration of Kenya’s President-elect William Ruto, two women traders Evelyn Chepkemei, a resident of Sugoi and her friend Eunice Tabut have arrived Kasarani having trekked 346km to Nairobi with a cart despite other available means of transportation.
“I decided to use the Cart because I’m a hustler,” Evelyn stated. The woman decided to cover the hundreds of kilometres with the intention of seeing the President-elect William Ruto with their own eyes and witness the inauguration ceremony at Kasarani Stadium slated for Tuesday, September 13.
Uasin Gishu County is the home of champions, having produced stellar gold medalists and dominating the global map. That could not be further from the truth. The two women trekked all the way to Nairobi as a way of demonstrating their support for the ‘Bottom Up’ economic policy upon which Ruto’s agenda is anchored.
Evelyen Chepkemei a mother of three and Eunice Tabut from Eldoret could not stand a chance to miss the historic day of their “son” as he takes the oath of office as Kenya’s fifth President.
Initially she was alone on the journey to Nairobi but she says she linked up with Eunice who had gone to Eldoret for her business.
“When she was going back home she saw me and alerted the driver so that he can alight to give Evelyn the company,” Chepkemei stated. President-elect William Ruto is expected to implement his bottom up economic model that resonates with young people and small scale businesses.
