Several flights have been rescheduled following the ongoing protest by Nigerian students at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
Students under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) stormed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to press down their demands for the government to resolve the intractable Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike which has entered its seven month.
Students arrived as early as 7: 00 am, chanting with placards and blocking the international airport thereby causing traffic jam on both ends of the airport.
The students later moved to the domestic airport, causing a standstill situation along the airport road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony road leading to the local airport.
Both the domestic terminal one also known as the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and the terminal two operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Service Limited (BASL) of the Airport and the MMA were shut down by the students preventing passengers from accessing the airport. Several local and international flights were rescheduled because of the protest.
In a similar vein, the NANS Kwara Chairman Salman Issa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ilorin that members were waiting for directives from its national secretariat. Issa said once the national body of the students gave the order to the remaining 36 states, they would comply with the protest.
