A total of 400 chess players are expected to compete in Nigeria’s 2022 National Chess Championships. The organisers declared that NCC 2022 would start on October 3 and remain until October 9. The Orchid-Lekki Chess Club is hosting the event on behalf of the Nigeria Chess Federation.
As the best players battle for the top rank and the coveted title of National Chess Champion, there will be other categories (Open) to accommodate chess players of all skill levels from across the country.
The top ten male and female players in the world will compete in an invited section of the upcoming competition to become Nigeria’s next national champions.
The open segment of the competition, which includes a master’s category, an open category, and a junior category featuring Under 10, Under 14, and Under 20 tournaments, will have the most participants.
These tournaments are anticipated to draw hundreds of kids, teens, and young adults.
Secondary school students in Lagos State and Chess in Slum children are also expected to compete for prizes in the junior category.
Also, 3,000 visitors are expected to be present in the event which will take place at the same venue the championships took place in 2021, Orchid Hotel, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos.
