Elections into the Lesotho parliament are currently taking place, although there is little hope that they will break the country’s political deadlock of recent years.
On Friday, fifty political parties will compete for votes. The ruling ABC party is weak against its opponents, especially the Democratic Congress, because of internal strife and defections.
After parliamentarians in Lesotho failed to adopt a slew of constitutional revisions in August, the country was placed under a state of emergency, but that order was overturned by the country’s highest court last month.
