The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has revealed its world rankings for women’s football, as South Africa and other African women’s football teams find out their ranks. The Super Falcons of Nigeria rose one spot to 45th in the world and maintain the top spot in Africa. Meanwhile, reigning African women’s champions, South Africa continues to be ranked as Africa’s second-best team and as World No. 54. In addition, Zambia’s prior rankings of 10th-best in Africa and 81st-best in the world stayed the same.
Africa’s top ten teams in the world rankings are as follows: Nigeria (45), South Africa (54), Cameroon (58), Ghana (59), Cote d’Ivoire (64), Equatorial Guinea (72), Morocco (76), Tunisia (78), Algeria (80), and Zambia (81).
The updated rankings were used to determine the seedings for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Play-Off Tournament draw will be held eight days prior to the 22 October ceremony, which will be held in Auckland.
Nigeria, the Philippines, South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, and the three winners of the Play-Offs are all in Pot 4, which means they will not play against each other in the main tournament.
