Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to step down from the race and endorse him, Tinubu in advance of the presidential election in February 2023.
When Atiku ran for president in 2007 under the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Tinubu endorsed him as a “gesture” of friendship. Tinubu has now asked Atiku to drop his own presidential bid and endorse him.
Tinubu made his remarks on Monday during an open discussion with Northern Nigerian leaders convened by the Arewa Joint Committee. The gathering was part of an ongoing dialogue with potential presidential candidates ahead of the 2023 election cycle.
His PDP rival had met with the northern leaders two days prior to Tinubu’s appearance. Six Northern organisations, including the Arewa Consultative Forum, the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, the Northern Elders Forum, and Jamar Matan Arewa, came together to host the interactive session at the Arewa House in Kaduna.
