Congolese artist, Fally Ipupa has expressed his condolences to the families of the 11 persons who died on Saturday during his concert in Kinshasa’s largest stadium.
According to one observer, the stadium was crowded past its 80,000 capacity, with even the corridors jammed.
According to reports, the crowd far outnumbered the security personnel’s ability to manage it. Among those deceased were two police officers.
Daniel Aselo Okito, the country’s interior minister, has called for the organisers to be punished for failing to limit the number of people attending the performance.
Fally Ipupa stated on Facebook that there was “strict compliance with safety” standards at the concert.
He continued: “I am deeply disturbed and my deepest condolences to all the families. May God in his deepest mercy comfort the bereaved hearts.”
