No fewer than four persons have been burnt to death with many others severely wounded, following a fire outbreak in a building occupied by a bank on Adeola Odeku street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully put out the fire that gutted the building after receiving distressed calls of a fire outbreak at about 10:03am on Tuesday, and rescue operations commenced almost immediately.
Spokesperson of the agency, Amodu Shakiru who confirmed the incident said the details about the fire outbreak will be communicated later.
A parked vehicle belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RSS), a unit of the Lagos State Police Command was also burnt in the blaze.
The RRS confirmed the incident stating that lives were lost but did not give figures.
Confirming the incident, RRS tweeted, “RRS vehicle on patrol of Adeola Odeku was this morning involved in a fire incident. Although lives were lost in the incident but our officers escaped with injuries.”
Amodu said the fire was met well alighted and firefighters swung into action and successfully arrested it. The building is located in a business environment.
Confirming the incident, Nosa Okunbor, spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said officials of the agency are already at the scene of the incident.
He said the agency is monitoring the situation, adding that emergency teams are working to put out the inferno.
