An Argentinian football fan who took off her clothes for the cameras after the country’s stunning World Cup victory could be facing jail time in Qatar.
The lady was spotted in the front row of Qatar’s Lusail Stadium on Sunday celebrating the spectacular win alongside another topless male fan.
Footages beamed excited Argentinian spectators after Gonzalo Montiel scored the match-winning kick against France. The footage was accidentally broadcast to several television channels worldwide, and attentive viewers caught the unexpected celebration from the braless onlooker.
Football enthusiasts who thronged to Qatar for the World Cup had been admonished by authorities to show “respect for local culture” by avoiding excessively revealing clothing in public.
Foreigners are not expected to wear traditional Muslim dress but are encouraged to dress modestly and avoid revealing their shoulders or knees in public.
FIFA’s Stadium Code of Conduct for the Qatar World Cup also prohibits fans from going shirtless while watching football matches.
The code says fans must not “remove items of clothing, or otherwise remain in a state of undress (including being shirtless) or reveal intimate body parts”.
Argentina beat France 4-2 in a penalty shootout, their first win in the tournament since 1986.
