Pioneering Egyptian psychiatry professor Yahya El-Rakhaway one of the most famous psychologists in the last decades have passed away on Sunday at the age of 89, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate (EMS) announced.
El-Rakhaway graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1957 and earned a PhD degree in psychiatry in 1963.
He was a professor of Psychiatry at Cairo University and the co-founder of group psychotherapy in Egypt. He is also founder of the first milieu therapy hospital in the Arab region (Dar El-Mokattam for Mental Health) in 1973.
He has more than 50 books to his name and has penned thousands of articles in different Egyptian and Arab journals.
He received the State Incentive Award in literature in 1979 and received the title of the Dean of Arab Psychiatry in 2016.
El-Rakhaway was honoured by the EMS during its celebration of Egyptian Doctor Day on March 18.
