Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a supplementary 2023 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly.
The supplementary budget got to the federal parliament about 24 hours before the passage of the 2023 Appropriation Bill.
Reading out the content of the cover letter on the bill to lawmakers on Wednesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila said the additional demand for N819,536,937,813 for 2023 was due to the wreck and devastation caused by floods on road infrastructure, homes, and farmlands.
President Buhari said Nigeria “witnessed the worst flood incidents in recent history, which has caused massive destruction of farmlands,” adding that food insecurity stares many Nigerians in the face.
Several roads and bridges across Nigeria’s 36 states of the federation were affected by floods this year. The president only transmitted the Finance Bill 2023 to the National Assembly on Tuesday.
