Nigerian international, Ademola Lookman scored twice and assisted once as Atalanta defeated Salernitana 8-2 in Sunday’s Italian Serie A duel, becoming the first side to score eight goals in a Serie A game since Inter Milan in 1996.
In the fifth minute, Atalanta took the lead. Jeremie Boga made a shot from outside Salernitana’s penalty box and after a ricochet, it got to Guillermo Ochoa’s net.
In the 10th minute, Salernitana answered with a goal. Boulaye Dia faced Juan Musso one-on-one and sent the ball between the legs of the Atalanta goalie.
Lookman later converted a penalty to restore the hosts’ lead. Giorgio Scalvini, Teun Koopmeiners (who tucked away the rebound from his penalty kick), and Rasmus Hojlund all scored before halftime.
Lookman scored again on 54 minutes, with Hans Nicolussi Caviglia getting a goal back for Salernitana. Atalanta’s seventh goal came from Ederson, and Nadir Zortea capped the thrashing.
Lookman now has seven goals and two assists in 16 appearances for Atalanta. Atalanta has the same number of points as both Lazio and Roma. They travel to Juventus next weekend with the goal of breaking into the top four.
