Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain star has been voted Arab Sportsman of the Year for 2022. After a memorable year on the international and domestic stages, the 24-year-old fullback got the award at the Joy Awards in his country’s capital Riyadh.
Hakimi was instrumental in the Atlas Lions reaching the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in January, before assisting the North Africans in a record-breaking World Cup campaign.
Morocco, which had only made it out of the group stages once before Qatar 2022, became the first African team to reach the tournament’s semi-finals before being ousted by France.
Achraf Hakimi, who has 61 caps and eight goals for his country, scored four goals and registered six assists in 38 games for Paris St-Germain in 2022, who won a record-tying 10th Ligue 1 title last April.
