The Chief regional officer of Oshana, Teopolina Hamutumua has appealed for assistance as flooding in the region has rendered over 300 persons homeless.
In a briefing on Monday evening in Oshana, Northern Namibia, Hamutumua said 49 houses in the region have been devasted by the flood.
“The effects of the flood have left about 300 people with no place to sleep and are in entire need of assistance,” she said.
She appealed to stakeholders and the business community to come to the aid of the flood victims.
Hamutumua said the affected communities are in need of food supplies, canoes, boats, mosquito repellent, water purification medications, makeshift tents, mosquito nets, and mobile toilets.
She added that life jackets, bags of sand, firewood, blankets, mattresses, as well as reflective jackets for officials, are required.
