One of the legendary bandits that terrorised the people of North West, Ummaru Nagona, was defeated by the military’s overwhelming weaponry.
Nagona concentrated on the eastern parts of Sokoto during his rule, particularly the villages near Isa and Sabon City.
Commenting on the killing of the bandit, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, a journalist, wrote; “I just received confirmation of the killing of the big gunman, Ummaru Nagona in arangama with Nigerian Army Atilare’s military car was carried on a motorbike along with the boy who supported him on their way to the rescue as a result of attacks on the gunmen camp in Kagara area east of Shinkafi (in Zamfara State).
“I met Ummaru Nagona on a visit to Bello Turji in December 2021. If you see him you don’t say he’s a gunman. Evil has no resemblance!”
Award-winning documentary by Abdulaziz documented his interaction with Bello Turji and other terrorist warlords. The military has not yet responded to the murder of Nagona.
Meanwhile, Bandits have shot dead the senior wife of the Chief Imam of Nomadic Central Mosque in Rugan Ardo, Isyaka Adamu. Mrs. Hulaira Hussaini Ardo, was shot dead after the bandits collected 2 million Naira as ransom.
Recall that bandits had on February 11, 2023, Kidnapped four wives of Malam Husaaini Ardo, at Rugan Ardo in Kagarko LGA, and killed the Chief Imam of Nomadic Central Mosque in Rugan Ardo, Isyaka Adamu.
The Madaki of Janjala, Samaila Babangida, confirmed the killing, and said the community was mourning the killing of their chief’s wife, adding that the bandits refused to release her corpse.
