The popular catchphrase of American rapper Snoop Dogg has cost a Mississippi News Anchor her job. According to reports, the WLBT journalist Barbie Bassett was fired for saying “Fo’ shizzle, my nizzle,” during a live television newscast while making a playful commentary about the globally recognised rapper, Snoop.
The slang expression often used to describe the phrase “for sure, my friend” in an informal way, could also be replaced with the N word in the black community.
The video of the live broadcast has since circulated online sparkling a variety of reactions on social media over this weekend. At this time, the network has refused to comment on “personal matters” although viewers have concluded Bassett may have faced disciplinary action as she’s neither been on air since and is no longer listed on the network’s website.
Its mixed reactions online, some seem to take it as a joke others are upset, with whether it’s friend or the N word referee to in the popular snoop Dogg phrase
It’s true that Barbie Bassett has previously upset the Black community in the past, referencing a co-worker’s grandmother as her “grandmammy.” A term that represents a Black woman who served as a nurse to a white family during slavery – Bassett would later offer a public apology.
Some have asked that Snoop Dogg delves into the conversation and hopefully clears the air, but the global superstar is yet to do any such.
