In light of the recent declaration by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa state, Barrister Hudu Yunusa, after the supplementary election held on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern over the premature announcement of a winner when the collation process has not been completed.
National Commissioner for Information & Voter Education at INEC, Barrister Festus Okoye said the REC’s action is seen as an encroachment on the authority of the Commission and as such, it is considered null, void, and ineffective.
As a result, the collation of results from the supplementary election is immediately suspended. The REC, Returning Officer, and all parties involved are summoned to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja without delay.
