Eagle Square in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has undergone renovations in preparation for the 2023 Presidential Inauguration.
The 5000-seat venue has received some repairs in time for the inauguration. It has been painted in certain areas and decorated with Nigerian and other national flags.
One of the parts of the square that was painted before the inauguration was the VIP Pavilion.
Since it was constructed in 1999 to mark the beginning of the Fourth Republic, The Eagle Square has hosted the inaugurations of presidents.
Additionally, it was utilised for a number of occasions, including political rallies and the Workers’ Day celebration.
In the meantime, security had been stepped up in and around the square in anticipation of the May 29 installation of a new administration.
The restriction of mobility in and around Eagle Square was one of the security measures.
The National Security Advisor (NSA), Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), has stated that there would be movement restrictions at a specific range around the Eagle Square.
There will be a traffic detour around the region, according to Monguno, chair of the Presidential Transition Council’s (PTC) Security, Facilities and Intelligence Committee.
For drivers and pedestrians, he said, alternate routes would be made available.
“If you have no business with security you need not be near the vicinity of the programme especially on the inauguration day,” he added.
Access to the venue will only be allowed to accredited persons and designated vehicles on the inauguration day.
