In a bid to enhance the nation’s economy, the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) has joined forces with the Rivers State government to explore new avenues for growth. Mr. Tijjani Kaura, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OGFZA, recently met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and expressed the desire to develop Ikpokiri island into an oil and gas-free zone.
During the meeting, Mr. Kaura emphasised the untapped potential of Ikpokiri, a pristine island that has remained relatively undeveloped since its designation as a free zone in 1996. By leveraging the area’s unique attributes, he envisioned the transformation of Ikpokiri into a modern city that would attract both local and international investors. He disclosed that investors from Japan have already indicated an interest in investing in Ikpokiri Island.
Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Mr. Kaura highlighted the critical role that OGFZA and the Rivers State government could play in realising the development of Ikpokiri Island. Such a partnership, he emphasised, would not only foster investment and economic growth but also create ample opportunities for job creation and wealth generation, benefiting both Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara appreciated the support and recognition shown by OGFZA and its management team. He affirmed his willingness to collaborate with the Authority in due course, further solidifying the mutual commitment to the development and prosperity of the region.
