According to the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, CCC, an opposition supporter in Zimbabwe was slain while travelling to an election event.
The fatality occurs amid a volatile and violent campaign time. Tinashe Chitsunge was reportedly one of a number of supporters who were attacked and stoned as they made their way to a protest in Glen Norah, a suburb of the country’s capital, Harare, according to CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere.
Social media images said to show a man wearing jeans laying on the ground in a pool of blood, with the yellow T-shirts of the party covering his head.
Social media posts from users’ smartphones appeared to document the violence, in which many people pelted a lorry carrying CCC supporters with rocks and tore campaign posters from the vehicle.
The Zimbabwean ministry of information sent condolences to the family of the deceased and announced that police were looking into the tragedy.
