A curfew-enforcing female soldier identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru in Adamawa fatally shot a senior officer at a Yola checkpoint.
The incident happened while commuters were engaged in an altercation with the soldier during curfew hours imposed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
The female soldier stood her ground, insisting that motorists turn back, even when some claimed essential duty status.
A captain attempted to mediate, but Nkiru accidentally fired her rifle, resulting in the captain’s tragic death. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, while Nkiru was promptly arrested by fellow soldiers. Nkiru has faced accusations of civilian harassment and trigger-happy behaviour.
