Two terrorist attacks over the weekend in Bandiagara village in central Mali resulted in a total of 17 fatalities and two injuries, local police reported on Monday.
According to a statement from the Bandiagara governorate, the first attack happened on Saturday in Bodio village in the Bandiagara region, leaving 15 persons dead and 2 injured. Additionally, two persons were killed in a second attack on a mine between Bodio and Anakanda villages on Sunday.
“Operations are underway to track down the perpetrators of this despicable act which will in no way discourage us from our eternal fight for the preservation of our country,” the statement said.
The attacks took place one day after the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali handed over the Ogossagou camp, a military base near Bandiagara, to the Malian government.
At the request of the Malian authorities, the United States Security Council unanimously endorsed on June 30 the total departure of UN peacekeeping personnel from Mali within the following six months.
