Troops of the Nigerian Army attacked a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, officer in the Ojota neighbourhood of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, beating him to stupor over an undetermined traffic infraction.
According to a sources, the incident occurred when eight soldiers grabbed the LASTMA official and beat him for a while.
The LASTMA officer was beaten up by the soldiers in a viral video as he pleaded for them to leave him alone.
As other LASTMA officers fled the area, one of the soldiers was observed punching the officer to the ground.
In the meantime, it was learned that the incident was revenge for a previous incident in which LASTMA officials were allegedly responsible for beating up a soldier in the same Ojota area last week.
In the current event, the armed invading soldiers attacked the police officer with blows and wooden planks before fleeing the scene.
According to reports, the sufferer was promptly taken to a neighboring hospital for treatment while unconscious.
Contacted, General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, through the Director Operations, Mr. A. Peter, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said: “We have reported the incident to the higher authorities of the army. They are already intervening in the matter.
“We will update you in due course. The act is totally condemnable.”
