According to the EF English Proficiency Index, Nigeria was ranked third in Africa and 28th overall.
It was found that countries designated as not speaking native English were included in the ranking.
In the list, which was released in November 2022, there were 20 countries from Africa. Kenya came in at 20th overall and second in Africa, while South Africa finished 12th overall and first in Africa.
Ghana, which ranked 41st overall and 4th in Africa, and Uganda, which ranked 55th overall and 5th in Africa, are two other countries that made the list.
The Netherlands currently holds the top spot on the global scale, with Singapore coming in second.
The Education First English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) attempts to rank countries by the equity of English language skills amongst those adults who took the EF test.
The EF EPI 2022 edition was calculated using test data from 2.1 million test takers in 2021.
One hundred and eleven countries and territories appear in the 2022 edition of the index.
In order to be included in the ranking, a country is required to have at least 400 test takers.
