Ghana has received praise from Damilola Ogunbiyi, the co-chair of United Nations-Energy, for demonstrating a commitment to switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources in accordance with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
The “ambitious” energy transition and investment plan for Ghana, according to Ogunbiyi, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), “builds a case for changes across Ghana’s entire energy system.”
During her visit to Ghana, she met President Nana Akufo-Addo, government ministers, local community groups, and youth.
According to a statement released by SEforALL, Ogunbiyi had the chance to learn firsthand how the various stakeholders were dedicated to a just and equitable energy transition.
The modifications to Ghana’s energy system, according to Ogunbiyi, “present a tremendous opportunity for partners and investors from around the world to contribute to climate action and sustainable development in Ghana.”
Ghana, according to President Akufo-Addo, is committed to a fair, clean energy transition that maximises the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
In order to transform the nation’s energy systems, he claimed that an energy transition and investment plan were essential.
President Akufo-Addo stated, “I look forward to working with international partners to realise the many opportunities presented in this plan.
As stated in the nation’s current Energy Transition Framework and Nationally Determined Contributions, the energy transition and investment plan is anticipated to serve as the government’s primary road map for achieving universal energy access and net-zero carbon emissions while promoting economic growth and safeguarding jobs.
