About 50 disease monitoring officers were trained by the Oyo State government and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture on how to accurately report Anthrax disease in the state.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, declared the three-day course open in Ibadan and stated that it was designed to enhance disease surveillance and quick response.
According to him, the Regional Disease Surveillance Enhancement (REDISSE) Project organised the epidemiology training in conjunction with the Oyo State government.
He continued by saying that the program would aid in the state’s and the country’s overall prevention and management of animal diseases.
Although Oyo State has not yet reported a case of the anthrax sickness, the commissioner emphasised that all hands must be on deck to stop its spread.
He continued by saying that the Oyo State administration has set up all necessary machinery to stop the epidemic.
Speaking on the importance of the training, the facilitator from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mrs. Ibukunoluwa Akinola, said the training of para-professional Veterinarians and Animal Health Workers in both government and private establishments in the state on how to report animal diseases is timely.
