The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has forwarded a second list of cabinet nominees to the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speaker of the House Mudashiru Obasa announced on Monday.
Immediate past Commissioner for Health in the state, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who was on the list of rejected nominees, has made a comeback, as his name appears for the second time on the second list. Former Commissioner for Information, Olugbenga Omotoso, has also made the new list.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier submitted a list of 39 nominees for approval and subsequent confirmation. However, on August 23, the House took the decision to confirm 22, while 17 were rejected.
Following the House of Assembly’s failure to confirm the 17 nominees, a lot of backlash followed, as politicians and residents could not understand why the lawmakers rejected them.
Mudashiru Obasa reacted to the criticisms, saying the rejection had no underlying meaning, as the House had no issues with the state Governor.
“There is no basis for the house or myself to fight the governor. The governor is a friend and colleague in serving Lagos State.
“We will continue to work together, and there is no reason to fight. But we have constitutional rights to say yes or no to his nominees,” he had said.
The lawmaker has called on the committee that took charge of the first list to ensure a thorough job of reviewing the new nominees.
“Some of the nominees have their documents with you, and you can reach out to the new nominees. I want you to be thorough and do the needful while carrying out this exercise,” he said.
