Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has announced that approximately 200 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters were killed by Ugandan troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo during ongoing military operations aimed at eradicating the militants.
President Museveni revealed, via X (formerly Twitter), that air attacks on the terrorists in Congo resulted in the deaths of around 200 militants on September 16. He noted that subsequent strikes against the fighters have occurred since then, although specific details were not provided.
Ugandan army spokesperson Felix Kulayigye clarified that the president was specifically referring to the ADF terrorists.
In 2021, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo jointly launched a military offensive against the ADF in eastern DR Congo. Despite these efforts, the group continues to carry out attacks in both countries.
An unfortunate incident in October saw the loss of two tourists—a British man and a South African woman—on their honeymoon, along with their guide, during a safari in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for this tragic attack.
In June of the same year, an assault on a secondary school in western Uganda resulted in the loss of 42 lives, including 37 pupils. This attack was also attributed to the ADF.
