Gunmen abducted Justice Joy Uwanna, a high court judge in the Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, along with her driver on Monday. The incident, which occurred along Uyo-Okobo Road, resulted in the death of her orderly.
The chairman of the Oron branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, Torosco Eyene, confirmed the kidnapping and mentioned that the judge was taken along the Okobo axis while heading to Uyo after a court session.
He said, “The sitting judge in Oron was kidnapped on Monday on her way back to Uyo after a court sitting. By Wednesday, we are moving down to Uyo to meet with the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durusinmi, and the DSS on the issue.”
The Nigeria Bar Association has scheduled a meeting with the Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services to address the situation. The police have initiated a discreet investigation into the incident, expressing their determination to reunite the judge with her family and bring the perpetrators to justice.
