Nigeria’s Onne Port, specifically Area 11 Command, has reported a revenue of N301 billion from January 2023 to date, exceeding 90% of its annual target, according to the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS). The Comptroller of the Onne Port, Baba Imam, made this announcement during an end-of-year recognition and award presentation ceremony for officers, consignees, and stakeholders.
Comptroller Imam stated that the command’s revenue target for the year is approximately N336 billion, and the N301 billion generated so far demonstrates significant progress. He emphasised the commitment to addressing smuggling activities through the port, implementing measures that serve as a deterrent, and ensuring conformity to import guidelines.
Furthermore, Imam disclosed that the command seized 39 containers containing contraband items from January to date. The confiscated items included used clothing, tyres, concealed hard drugs, and pistols, among others, which were handed over to relevant authorities.
The Comptroller highlighted the achievements of the Command in 2023, including the training and re-training of officers and consignees. Mr. Mike Ebeatu, the Chairman of the Onne chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licenced Customs Agents (ANLCA), commended Baba Imam for creating an enabling business environment through consistent collaboration and awareness campaigns for consignees.
