President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a meeting with the recently sworn-in governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in Lagos State, encouraging him to assume leadership and rally the people for the progress of the state.
Aiyedatiwa, who previously served as the deputy governor, ascended to the position of governor on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, following the passing of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
During the meeting at President Tinubu’s Lagos residence, Governor Aiyedatiwa updated the president on recent developments in the state, expressing gratitude for Tinubu’s support during Ondo State’s challenging period.
“I’m here to see Mr. President, to further brief him on the events that happened in our state: the loss of our governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, and to also let him know that I have just been sworn in because there can never be a vacuum,” said Governor Aiyedatiwa.
He thanked President Tinubu for standing by the people of Ondo State and acknowledged Tinubu’s role as a father figure to the state. Aiyedatiwa described the meeting as a “paradox” with mixed feelings, highlighting President Tinubu’s condolences and encouragement to lead and unite the state for progress.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, also a guest of President Tinubu on Thursday, visited to commiserate with the president and provide updates on developments in his own state.
