In response to a viral video circulating on social media depicting the brutality of civilians in Rivers State, the Nigerian Army has announced the identification and subsequent arrest of the two soldiers involved.
A statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Division, conveyed the Headquarters’ profound dismay at the unprofessional conduct exhibited by the identified personnel.
The 6 Division emphasised the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalism, adherence to established rules of engagement, and respect for the fundamental human rights of citizens. It categorically declared its intolerance for any infractions committed by its personnel.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South Nigeria, Operation Delta Safe, has promptly ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. He reassured the public that every effort would be made to ensure accountability and appropriate sanctions for those involved.
