Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s recent general election, has offered his congratulations to PDP governors whose electoral victories were affirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday.
In a press statement from his media office, the former Vice President conveyed his joy over the court’s decision, deeming it good news for the people of Bauchi, Plateau, Cross River, and Zamfara states. Atiku hailed it as a triumph for constitutional democracy.
The 2023 PDP presidential candidate also extended his congratulations to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Atiku emphasised his belief that a united opposition force is crucial for strengthening democracy in Nigeria, asserting, “I am as prepared as ever to lead the charge, alongside all our leaders and governors, for the good of our country.”
Expressing his satisfaction with the substantial rendering of justice, Atiku emphasised, “Where justice is seen to have been substantially rendered, we, as patriots and citizens, will always applaud.”
Atiku pointed out that the Supreme Court’s verdict ensures the continuation of the high standards of good governance that the PDP has established in the respective states. He encouraged the PDP governors, namely Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Barr. Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, and Pastor Umo Eno of Cross River, to view their victories at the Supreme Court as an opportunity to consolidate and expand the scope of the good governance they have already instituted.
With the electoral phase now concluded, Atiku expressed confidence that the PDP can now focus on its role as the major opposition party in the country, with the party’s adept governors at the helm, working together to safeguard the nation’s democracy.
