In anticipation of the upcoming Supreme Court judgement on the governorship, leaders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have come together to sign a peace accord in Nasarawa State.
During the signing of the peace deal, security agencies emphasised the need for sustainable peace to foster the growth and development of the state. Commissioner of Police Umar Shehu Nadada, in Lafia, the state capital, vowed to decisively handle anyone attempting to instigate chaos before, during, and after the governorship Supreme Court judgement.
“This is to ensure peace before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgement. It is also expected that the party leaders would bring this peace agreement to all their loyalists and supporters across the state”.
“The joint security committee has also resolved to work together towards ensuring a sustainable peace in the state. Whoever goes against this resolve, no matter how highly placed in the society will regret his or her action”.
CP Nadada urged those planning any harm against the state to reconsider their actions.
“Information at the disposal of the command reveals that some faceless individuals are planning to stage violent protests in the state if the Supreme Court verdict does not favour them,”
CP Nadada assured both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that joint security forces would maintain neutrality.
The Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Aliyu Belli, and the Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Adamu Bako, provided assurances that they would ensure peace before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgement.
The peace accord ceremony took place in the presence of other security agencies in Nasarawa. Representing the APC were the party’s state chairman, Aliyu Bello, and APC state secretary, Yarus Dakusa. The PDP was represented by state organising secretary Yahaya Bunu, PDP state secretary Adamu Bako, woman leader Hon. Stella Oboshi, and PDP zonal chairman Isa Sule.
The Supreme Court has scheduled January 16, 2023, for the hearing of the appeal filed by the PDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa, Dr. David Ombugadu, against Governor Abdullahi Sule of the APC from the 2023 elections.
