Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the immediate deployment of the officials of the National Emergency Management Authority ((NEMA) to render adequate support to the victims of the deadly explosion that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The President also condoled with the Oyo state government for the tragedy that cut short the lives of individuals, left others severely injured and homeless.
Shortly after the incident, the Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde revealed that the deadly blast was caused by some foreign illegal miners housing lethal explosives within the location of the incident.
The Governor said this during a press conference at the Press Briefing Room of the Governor’s Office at the State Secretariat, Agodi Ibadan on Wednesday, January 17.
Reacting to the sad development, President Tinubu ordered that the culprits responsible for the explosion be fished out and dealt with accordingly.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday, released a statement from the Presidency, quoted the President saying:
“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished.”
The President also directed that officials of NEMA be immediately deployed to the scene of the tragedy to assist the Oyo state government in giving adequate support to victims.
