A 24-year-old woman identified as Beatrice Wairimu, and her 8-year-old daughter Angel Wairimu died in the early hours of Saturday morning, following a tragic fire incident in Umoja 2 village, Molo Sub-county, Nakuru County in Kenya.
Reports say Beatrice, who was to relocate to Nairobi next Monday in search of a better life, burnt to death with her daughter after their house caught fire while the world slept.
Husband and father to the deceased Beatrice and Angel, James Macharia, said he had gone to sleep early with his family after dinner, as there was a power outage in the area. He said his wife, the late Beatrice, light candles in her room before going to sleep.
Mr. Macharia said he was not sure what the actual cause of the fire incident was, but suspected the candle used in Beatrice’s bedroom might have caused the fire outbreak.
Although Macharia said he slept in the house, he escaped the inferno unhurt.
The Molo police operatives led by Molo OCS and DCI officers were at the scene. They moved the bodies to Molo Sub-county Hospital mortuary.
Autopsies will be carried on the bodies to aid in ongoing investigations into the incident.
Power outages in the area are common, according to locals, who claim they have made several complaints but yet to see any improvements in that regard.
