President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s Super Eagles football team for the victory against Angola on Friday, which secured them a spot in the AFCON semi-finals.
News Central reports that Nigeria beat Angola 1-0 in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations quarter-finals match yesterday, Friday, February 2.
The lone winning goal came from Ademola Lookman in the first-half of the match. Nigerian top striker Victim Osimhen also made an impressive move in the second half, scoring a great goal that was, unfortunately, ruled as an offside.
President Tinubu, who is currently on a private visit to France, spoke to the team via the cloud-based video conferencing platform, Zoom, early Saturday.
The 2023 AFCON tournament is ongoing in Cote d’Ivoire. Ironically, the host country was knocked out of the competition following a humiliating 4-0 defeat by Equatorial Guinea.
Nigeria will go head-to-head with the winner of the quarter-final match between Cape Verde and South Africa scheduled for Saturday, January 3 at 9pm tonight. The outcome will determine who moves to the finals.
