Johnson Gwaikolo, former Nimba County Representative, has passed away, according to family sources. Gwaikolo died suddenly at the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Monrovia. The cause of his death is unknown. News of his passing has deeply saddened residents of Nimba County and the nation as a whole.
Rep. Gwaikolo was well-known for his political experience as well as his educational background. He represented Nimba District #9 in the 54th Legislature for six years, chairing the Committee on Education before becoming Chair of the House Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration. Although he ran for reelection in 2023, he lost to incumbent Representative Taa Wongbe.
His time in the 54th Legislature was his second term in the legislative body, having previously served in the National Legislative Assembly during the civil war.
Outside of the Legislature, the late Gwaikolo was Deputy Minister of Public Works under Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and President of the United Methodist University.
