Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began their men’s football campaign at the 13th African Games in Ghana with a 2-1 defeat to Uganda.
On Thursday night, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legion, hosted the inaugural Group B match.
The Nigerian team, coached by Ladan Bosso, conceded first in the 34th minute against expectations, but rallied to equalise and finish the first half level.
However, they would concede again in the second half, giving their East African opponents all three points.
The Junior Cranes’ second-half pressure paid off, as Ivan Irinimbabazi scored the winning goal in the 81st minute.
To advance from the group, the Nigerian team must now win its remaining games against South Sudan and Senegal.
