After an outstanding performance by the swimming team on Tuesday night, Zimbabwe’s hopes of winning additional medals at the upcoming African Games in Accra, Ghana, appear to be on the right track.
With three medals, Zim’s swimming team established themselves as one of the top teams in the competition.
In addition to winning the gold in the men’s 200-meter backstroke on Sunday, Denilson Cyprianos added a silver medal in the men’s 100-meter backstroke final.
Donata Katai, who placed third in the Women’s 100 Backstroke final but won bronze, was Zimbabwe’s second medal of the evening. Her time was 1.03.77.
In the 4x100m Women’s Freestyle Relay, the team consisting of Donata Katai, Liam Davis, Vhenekai Dhemba, and Paige Van Der Weisthuizen took home the bronze medal.
The swimming squad of squad Zimbabwe now has four medals to their name: two bronze, one silver, and one gold.
Out of the twelve sporting disciplines that Team Zimbabwe sent, it returned home with just four medals from the most recent edition of the African Games, which took place in Morocco.
