The German government has announced its commitment to providing 48 million dollars to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) across various regions, including Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and the occupied West Bank.
In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, it was highlighted that this funding will support crucial health and education services, as well as cash-for-work programmes aimed at assisting Palestinian refugees.
This initiative from Germany comes shortly after the US Congress passed a bill suspending funding for the agency until March 2025. UNRWA expressed concerns regarding the implications of this decision, warning that it could exacerbate food insecurity among the population in the Gaza Strip.
