Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council has endorsed the final report aimed at enhancing the nation’s basic healthcare services.
Mr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, made this announcement to State House correspondents following this week’s cabinet meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu. Alausa explained that the report is designed to strengthen the basic healthcare provision fund, focusing on improving immunisation and maternal and child health for Nigerian children.
“In furtherance of the President’s commitment and firm belief that a healthy nation is the core to harnessing our greatest asset, which is human capital, Alausa stated. He continued, “Today, the Council approved the report of our Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and sector-wide approach. That approach was launched on December 23, 2023 by President Bola Tinubu where the President signed a compact agreement with the 36 state governors.”
Alausa elaborated on the sector-wide approach, and the need for its alignment with the three gateways to the basic healthcare provision fund: primary healthcare, national health insurance, and emergency services. He stated the the need to synchronise the spending of development partners to eliminate fragmentation within the healthcare system.
Additionally, the Council approved the procurement of a computed tomography scanner, commonly known as a CT scanner, for the Teaching Hospital in Gombe State, located in Nigeria’s Northeast region. Alausa underscored that this decision aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare for all Nigerians.
