The Executive Council of Gombe State has given the nod to a budget of 43.130 billion naira for the development of an ultra-modern Three-Arms-Zone in Gombe. This complex will house the Governor’s residence, the State High Court, and the House of Assembly.
During a briefing with journalists on the memo ratified by the State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Mr Tilde Mijiyanwa, the Commissioner for Information, highlighted that the approval underwent thorough scrutiny by the council.
Mijiyanwa disclosed,“Council approved for N14b High Court complex, N14b for House of Assembly Complex, N10.4b for roads, there is ultra-modern governor’s residence of about N15b.”
Further elaborating, Mr. Usman Kallamu, the Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, detailed that the ultra-modern High Court will require an allocation of 14 billion naira, while the House of Assembly’s construction will cost 14.23 billion naira, and the Governor’s residence will be budgeted at 14.9 billion naira. He affirmed that, with the approval granted, construction activities will kick off promptly.
Additionally, the council approved an allocation of 10 billion naira for the construction of 77 kilometres of roads across four local government areas in the state.
Kallamu specified that the beneficiary LGAs include Kwami, Funakaye Nafada, and Yalmatu Deba.
Moreover, during the Gombe State Executive Council meeting, the construction of offices for the Gombe State Security, Traffic, and Environmental Corps was also approved.
Mr. Abdullahi Bello, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, commended the governor for sanctioning the construction of these office accommodations and assuring residents of enhanced security measures in the state.
Bello stated, “The office will be built in the town and we assure residents that it will help Operation Hattara to be more committed to providing security.”
Furthermore, the Executive Council allocated 549.4 million naira for the payment of fees for various national secondary examinations.
This initiative will sponsor over 19,840 students from 151 senior secondary schools to undertake examinations conducted by the West Africa Examinations Council, the National Business and Technical Examination Board, and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies.
Among these students, 18,288 will sit for the WAEC examination, 1,243 will sit for the National Business and Technical Examination Board, and the remaining 309 will sit for the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies exam.
Dr. Aishatu Maigari, the Commissioner for Education, outlined that the beneficiaries were selected based on their performance since the inception of Governor Yahaya’s administration in 2019.
She emphasised that the students encompass both indigenous students and those on exchange programmes from other states, showcasing the governor’s generosity towards students on exchange programmes.
