The leading investigative body in Russia has announced the detention of another individual suspected of complicity in the assault on a suburban Moscow concert hall, which resulted in the tragic loss of 143 lives.
In a statement released by the Investigative Committee, it was disclosed that the recent detainee was linked to the financing of last Friday’s assault on the Crocus City concert hall. During the attack, gunmen targeted awaiting concert-goers before igniting the premises. However, detailed information regarding the suspect’s identity or specific involvement was not provided.
Authorities had previously disclosed the arrest of 11 suspects, including four believed to be directly involved in executing the attack. These four individuals, identified as Tajik nationals, made a court appearance in Moscow on Sunday, facing charges of terrorism while exhibiting signs of severe physical abuse. Notably, one of them appeared barely conscious during the proceedings.
While a faction of the ISIS group has claimed responsibility for the heinous act, Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have consistently implicated Ukraine and Western powers in the attack, albeit without substantiating evidence.
The statement from the Investigative Committee further asserted that there is evidence confirming substantial financial support, including cryptocurrency, from Ukraine to the perpetrators, which was purportedly utilised in orchestrating the crime.
In response, Ukraine has vehemently denied any involvement, dismissing Moscow’s accusations as a pretext for escalating tensions and conflict within Ukraine.
Health authorities reported on Thursday that approximately 70 individuals remain hospitalised due to injuries sustained in the attack, with many in critical condition.
