The uMkhonto weSizwe claims that there was something amiss in the car crash involving former president Jacob Zuma and his bodyguards.
Zuma and his entourage were travelling from Nkandla to Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal for the party’s campaign when the accident happened around 6:40 pm local time.
According to MK’s head of elections in the province, Musa Mkhize, Zuma was a target.
“What happened last night I must say that unfortunately, we have been waiting for it to happen and it has happened because the president was warned that he will be laying in hospital, we don’t know what more is still coming.
Whoever is doing it, they know themselves out there. I am not the one saying it, they said it publicly, they have said it on national broadcaster and people we all know who they are.”
Police said, “No injuries were reported” but it has arrested a 51-year-old man for drunk and reckless driving.
Zuma was suspended by the African National Congress (ANC), and is currently campaigning for MK ahead of national polls in May.
Due to previous jail sentence, he has been barred from contesting in the upcoming election.
There are concerns that the first time in 30 years, ANC’s vote may dip below 50%.
MK’s influence, especially in KwaZulu-Natal, could impact ANC’s support.
