Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has authorised the promotion of 10,581 junior officers within the Inspectorate Cadre, and Rank and File.
The promotions include 9,831 Police Constables to be promoted to Corporals, 81 Corporals to Sergeants, and 669 Sergeants to advance to the rank of Inspectors, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, April 5.
The promotion process will be coordinated by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Department of Finance and Administration (DIG DFA) and the Commissioner of Police (Welfare).
The IGP through the issued statement, stressed that promotions in the Force were solely on merit. The statement further emphasised the importance of meritocracy in promotions to enhance officers’ morale and overall effectiveness.
“The Nigeria Police Force extends its heartfelt congratulations to all officers slated for promotion and urges them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and service to the nation,” Adejobi said.
Recall that late last year, the House of Representatives urged IGP Egbetokun to promptly implement the Police Service Commission’s recommendation to promote deserving men and officers of the Force.
This call came after a motion titled “A call to implement recommendations of the Police Service Commission” was sponsored by House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda.
The House expressed concern over IGP’s failure to implement the PSC’s recommendations for promoting qualified officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
